MP4 When You Need Video

Mp3ify is about audio, but some jobs need the video file too. Choose an MP4 quality and save it in one go.

When an audio file is not enough

Most people come to Mp3ify for MP3, M4A or WAV. Some jobs still need the picture: a tutorial where you have to see the hands, a music video you want to show at a party, or a clip you want to cut together with your own footage. For those, the converter also makes MP4 files with sound and picture in one.

Important: switch the menu to MP4

Because Mp3ify is an audio site, the format menu on this page opens with MP3 selected. Open the menu and pick an entry from the Video group before you press Download. Otherwise you get an audio file.

  1. Copy the link of the YouTube video you want to keep.
  2. Paste it into the URL field.
  3. Open the format menu and choose MP4 at the resolution you want, for example MP4 (720p).
  4. Press Download, wait for "Download ready", then press Download on the result card.

In our test, a 720p MP4 of a short clip was ready in about 21 seconds.

Picking a resolution

  • Sound matters most: the small 144p to 360p files are enough when the picture is only a still image or a speaker.
  • Phone or tablet: 480p or 720p keeps the file light and still looks clean.
  • Laptop, TV or editing: 1080p.
  • Big screens: 1440p and 4K help only when the uploader filmed that sharp.

Higher steps make bigger files. In our test with a vertical clip, the 1080p file was about nine times larger than the 720p file. If you only want to listen, skip the video and use an audio format instead.

Video now, audio later

An MP4 file contains the sound track, so you keep every option. Watch it today, and if you later want the song alone, paste the same link on the Mp3ify audio converter and choose MP3. For voice recordings, the M4A page makes a much smaller file. To edit the sound apart from the picture, get a WAV file as well.

Good uses for the MP4

  • Keep a tutorial offline for a workshop or a flight.
  • Show your own band's video on a TV from a USB stick.
  • Put your own clip into a video editor next to new footage.
  • Save a recorded lesson from your own course, so students can watch it without a connection.

Audio from the video file later

Already saved the MP4 and now want just the sound? Many programs can pull it out: VLC has a Convert function, and video editors can export the audio track alone. It is often quicker, though, to paste the link here again and choose MP3 or WAV directly, because the converter then builds a clean audio file for you.

Video questions

Why did I get an MP3 instead of a video?

The menu was still on MP3. Choose an MP4 entry from the Video group and convert again.

Is 4K always sharper?

4K only adds detail when the video was uploaded in 4K. For older or low-resolution uploads, 1080p or lower gives the same picture in a smaller file. In our test the 4K file also used the newer AV1 codec, which some older TVs and phones cannot play.

Which MP4 setting suits a phone?

MP4 (720p). It looks sharp on a phone screen and keeps the file small.

Where does the MP4 file go?

Into your browser's normal download folder, named after the video title.

What does the WEBM entry give me?

Sound only. WEBM sits in the Audio group of the menu, so for a video file pick one of the MP4 entries.

Can I play the MP4 on a TV?

Most smart TVs play MP4 from a USB stick. Copy the file over, then open it with the TV's media player.
